Dale Earnhardt Jr. Returns to Daytona 500 as Team Owner with Star Partnership

NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. takes on team ownership role at Daytona 500, backed by a high-profile whiskey partnership.
Dale Earnhardt Jr., a two-time Daytona 500 champion and NASCAR Hall of Famer, is making his return to the iconic race—but this time, as a team owner.

Earnhardt Jr. will field a car for Justin Allgaier, one of his Xfinity Series drivers and the reigning champion, in the 67th running of the Daytona 500, scheduled for February 16, 2025.

The car will be backed by a notable partnership with Traveller Whiskey, a brand developed by Buffalo Trace Distillery in collaboration with Grammy-winning singer Chris Stapleton.

This partnership highlights Earnhardt Jr.'s growing influence in NASCAR beyond his driver career.

JR Motorsports, co-owned by Earnhardt Jr. and his sister Kelly Earnhardt Miller, will be making its debut in the NASCAR Cup Series with this one-off entry.

Allgaier will attempt to qualify for the Daytona 500 via pole qualifying on February 12, or through a 150-mile qualifying race on February 13. The partnership with Rick Hendrick Motorsports, a collaboration also linked to Stapleton and Hendrick, adds further depth to the effort.

The 2024 season marked JR Motorsports' 20th year in Xfinity Series racing, with a strong track record.

If Allgaier secures a spot in the Daytona 500, it will mark the team’s first-ever Cup Series race.

This initiative reinforces Earnhardt Jr.'s growing presence in the NASCAR ecosystem, blending his racing expertise with the commercial success of partnerships like the one with Stapleton and Hendrick Motorsports.
