Former Florida and Ohio State Coach Urban Meyer Elected to College Football Hall of Fame

Urban Meyer’s legacy as a champion coach with Florida and Ohio State earns him a place in the prestigious College Football Hall of Fame.
Urban Meyer, the former head coach of the Florida Gators and Ohio State Buckeyes, has been elected to the College Football Hall of Fame.

The announcement was made by the National Football Foundation on Wednesday, recognizing Meyer’s exceptional career in college football.

Meyer led the Florida Gators to two national championships in 2006 and 2008, achieving a remarkable record of 65-15, including a 36-12 mark in the Southeastern Conference.

His time in Gainesville also saw players like Tim Tebow, Percy Harvin, and Joe Haden rise to prominence, with Tebow winning the Heisman Trophy in 2007. Meyer’s tenure at Florida also earned him multiple coaching accolades, including the 2008 All-American Football Foundation Coach of the Year honor.After stepping down from Florida in 2010, Meyer took the helm at Ohio State in 2012, where he led the Buckeyes to a national championship in 2014 and posted an 83-9 record over seven seasons.

Meyer’s career began at Bowling Green and continued at Utah, where his 12-0 season in 2004 earned him the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award.Meyer, who retired with a 187-32 career record across 17 seasons, will be officially inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame at the 67th NFF Annual Awards Dinner on December 9, 2025. He will join Steve Spurrier and Doug Dickey as the third former Florida coach to be inducted.
