Nvidia Pledges Up to $100 Billion Investment in OpenAI to Power Massive AI Data Center Build-Out

Deal includes supply of high-performance chips, non-controlling equity in OpenAI, and plans for at least ten gigawatts of compute power by late 2026
Nvidia has announced a strategic partnership with OpenAI, committing up to one hundred billion dollars in investment to accelerate the construction and deployment of next-generation AI data centers.

Under the agreement, Nvidia will supply OpenAI with its datacenter chips in cash deals, while also acquiring non-controlling shares in OpenAI.

The plan calls for building at least ten gigawatts of computational infrastructure, with the first gigawatt to be delivered in the second half of 2026 via Nvidia’s upcoming Vera Rubin platform.

OpenAI has committed to purchase Nvidia’s systems, pending a definitive agreement in the coming weeks.

The partnership underscores the central role of Nvidia’s GPUs and architectures in scaling frontier AI models, as OpenAI seeks to enhance its capacity for development and deployment of increasingly compute-intensive systems.

Both companies emphasized that the deal forms part of the broader AI infrastructure race, following similar multibillion-dollar commitments by cloud providers and AI incumbents.

Observers expect that regulatory scrutiny could arise, especially around issues of market dominance and fair access to hardware.

The announcement sent Nvidia’s stock higher and reinforced investor confidence in its leadership in the AI ecosystem.

Global demand for accelerated compute continues to grow, and this partnership positions OpenAI to secure supply and scale amid rising competition.
